Sandee Cheynet
This Rotarian is a real piece of work! Her only problem is that she is a genuine Hokie. Perhaps that’s better than being a damned Wahoo, but only by a sliver. Sandee is Bluefield Regional Medical Center’s vice president for administration, and as such is also in charge of the hospital’s volunteer program. I am one of her volunteers, so I better be careful about this profile. It would be most embarrassing to be fired from a volunteer job!
Sitting across the desk from this young woman is inspiring. She is confident, well informed, and gives every indication that she loves what she is doing. When asked what she would like to be doing five years hence, she replied, “I want to be right here doing everything I can to help make this hospital the very best it can possibly be.” Does she have a great attitude, or what?
Sandee is a Tazewell girl. After completing high school she enrolled at Hokieville and had no trouble finding the place. Her parents simply took her to the nearest dirt road and let her out. Everyone knows that all dirt roads lead to Bleaksburg. Once there she began gathering information to help her compete in the job market. However, after earning a BS in business administration she decided she wanted still more ammunition. She began work on her MBA and a few years later jumped headlong into the real world ready to do battle. She is also a “graduate” of Brown Edwards Co., having worked in their personnel department in the Roanoke office. Its great Sandee is now on our team.
She says the thing she likes most about Rotary is the possibility of networking with other business people in the area. As we all know (or should know), the idea of acquiring new business friends and customers was Paul Harris’ chief motivator. Each of us needs to keep that in mind as we work at building Rotary.
Sandee believes Bluefield Rotary has too many irons in the fire. The number of local projects plus those pushed by RI really is staggering. Perhaps we should limit ourselves to fewer projects so as to be more effective in our selected charitable efforts.
Interact is dear to Sandee’s heart. She was involved in it when she attended Tazewell high school. She would like to see our club more involved with our teen club. In the past we kept close tabs on BHS Interact and at least two or three young members joined us for lunch each Tuesday. Perhaps Sandee will be able to help with Interact in the future. Currently she is serving our club as a director and had a big hand in our recent annual banquet.
Is that enough? No! Overall this Rotarian is doing an amazing balancing job. First as wife to husband George who is a Pfizer representative, secondly as mother to six-year-old Connor who is in Dudley primary school in Bluefield, Virginia, and four-year old twins McKenzie and Morgan. The twins are enrolled in the Bland Street United Methodist preschool. And finally as an important member of the BRMC top management team.
How does she juggle all this? Beats me. But she is doing it and doing a great job of it. Sandee, even though you are a Hokie we are glad you are a member of the Rotary Club of Bluefield, WV.
